Solarpunk Animal Domestication: Tame, Pen, Feed, Breed
Animals provide eggs, milk, wool, and a small combat assist. Most players tame 2-3 animals and stop. With the right food and pen design, you can breed a full farm of every species — including the rare flying variants.

The 6 Domesticable Species
| Animal | Biome | Taming Food | Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun Hen | Starter island | Sun Grain | Eggs (1/day) |
| Cloud Sheep | High-altitude islands | Sweet Berry | Wool (1/2 days) |
| Drift Cow | Low-fog islands | Root Veggie | Milk (1/day) |
| Sky Otter | River islands | Fiber | Cloth (1/3 days) |
| Storm Ram | Storm-belt islands | Tea Leaf | Wool + Hide |
| Sunray Phoenix | Rare (post-game) | Cotton | Feather + combat assist |
The 4-Step Tame
- Find the species in its native biome.
- Equip the correct taming food in your hotbar.
- Approach slowly (do not sprint — sprinting scares them).
- Press E to feed. Repeat every 5 in-game minutes until the trust bar fills.
Taming takes 4-6 feeds. If the animal flees, wait 1 in-game day and try again — they reset trust after a day of no contact.
Pen Design (Copy This)
- Build a 6×6 enclosed pen with 1-block walls.
- Place a feeder in the center, filled with the species' preferred food.
- Place a water trough in one corner.
- Place a bed of hay in the opposite corner.
- Open the pen gate and lure the tamed animal inside.
- Add a second adult of the same species — they will breed automatically every 2 in-game days.

The Sunray Phoenix (Rare)
The Sunray Phoenix is the only flying-domesticable species. It spawns only on the post-game Sky Citadel island, which requires the airship to reach. Once tamed, it follows you in combat and deals 30 damage to nearby enemies.
- Reach the Sky Citadel (post-game, 30+ hours in).
- Bring 10 cotton (their preferred taming food).
- Wait for the dawn cycle — phoenixes only spawn at sunrise.
- Tame as with the other species (4-6 feeds).
- Pen the phoenix in a 8×8 enclosure — they need extra space to fly.
Production Priority (What to Breed)
For solo play, prioritize Cloud Sheep + Sun Hen — wool and eggs are used in the most recipes. For co-op, add Drift Cow for milk (used in trading and crafting).
